Executive Insight

A key member of Groupware's executive team, Scott Sutter is responsible for managing the strategic direction of the company. As Vice President of Sales, he's overseen a 7,579% increase in revenue over the last three years.

From my perspective, 2008 will be a year of challenge and change. New technologies will emerge as companies aggressively search for ways of being more efficient with fewer dollars. In an economy showing signs of fragility, integrating and maintaining the right—and the right amount of—information technology will require more planning and focus. When budgets tighten and the need for worker efficiency escalates, they expect, and then demand, more from technology. This year's IT solutions must not only be faster and more powerful and flexible, they must also be seamless to integrate, easy to maintain and use, and, most of all, deliver rapid ROI. Fortunately, several developing technologies are poised to meet these requirements and achieve momentum and market share.

As globalization continues, so will the demand for data center solutions that create, and take advantage of increased bandwidth and consolidate more applications on less hardware. The adoption of WAN optimization solutions will increase as will VoIP (Voice Over IP), a proven protocol that quickly delivers a strong benefit to the bottom line. In 2008, virtualization will continue to dominate conversation and conversion. After three years, I believe the market will have the confidence to move their virtualized environments from test and development to production. Because this powerful technology requires the right resources and environment, in the last six months we've seen increased demand for VMWare's JumpStart, a bundled service that assesses and analyzes virtualization performance issues in an IT infrastructure.

This year, companies and markets will expand on IT platforms that are smaller, faster, and more powerful. In the process, increasing importance will be placed on strategic outsourcing to evaluate and integrate cost-effective best-of-breed solutions. As companies respond to continuing globalization with new technologies that streamline and maximize resources and budget, 2008 should be both challenging and exciting.
